More interesting cultural activities for retired expats
As I have alluded to in previous articles, one of largest problems expat retirees are confronted with is what to do with their free time. Fortunately, this should not be an issue when living in Costa Rica. There are literally hundreds of interesting activities for keeping busy while residing here. For example, here are just two recent events.
Last weekend the third edition of the “Street Food Festival” took place at Parque Viva. Twenty food trucks and many stands offered a variety of delicious cuisine. Some of the food trucks that participated were: Cebichería (serving ceviche), Pizza Hut, Retro Wings (chicken wings), Churros (like doughnuts), Sabor Venezolano (Venezuelan-style food), La Ventanita Meraki (incredible hamburgers) and Junior ribs among others. At Chef’s Market you could even buy your own meat and prepare it on grills in the picnic area. In addition, various booths offered a whole gamut of wine and different types of beer. Several musical groups performed at this event. There was even an area for children featuring featuring face painting and games. Finally, the festival was dog friendly so visitors could bring their pets.
The International Book Fair will be held in May. This activity will take place in the old custom’s house (La Antigua Aduana), just east of downtown San José. There will be almost 100 stands and exhibitions featuring books, workshops, symposiums, musical recitals and the usual activities for children.
Like many events around Costa Rica the Feria del Libro will be “free.” This is great news especially for cost-conscious expat retirees on who live on a budget. Indeed, entertainment Costa Rica is affordable.
