A new source of finding entertainment for expat retirees
As I have stated repeatedly in many of my past blogs and columns, “It is very important to stay active while living in Costa Rica.” In the Central Valley there are virtually hundreds of activities from which to choose for staying busy and happy. Some of the venues are even FREE.
Every day there are more things to do at the beach in places like Jacó/Los Sueños, Quepos and Tamarindo. However, what is available in said places is only a fraction of what can be found in the Central Valley and the Greater Metropolitan area (also known as the GAM).
Furthermore, some expats are moving to Boquete and David in northwest Panamá. Unfortunately, both places cannot hold a candle to Costa Rica’s Central Valley when it come to finding entertainment.
Recently, I came across a new FREE publication called GAM CULTURAL. It is a fold-out much like a map that is published monthly and contains a calendar of events in and around the San José metropolitan area. Some of the featured entertainment venues are: music, exhibitions, art shows, theater, fairs, dance, workshops, nightlife and more.
On the back of the pamphlet there is a map of downtown San José featuring art galleries, theaters, parks and plazas, museums, cultural centers and other places of interest.
There is even a section showing alternative entertainment like el Sótano, the old customs house (la Antigua Aduana), the CENAC Amphitheater, The Steinworth Building, the Cine Magaly movie theater, and the Sala Garbo.
Besides the listings on the physical map it is also posible to download the GAM Cultural application from the App Store or Google Play.
There is also a website at: www.GAMCULTURAL.com.
Expats should have no excuse for being bored in Costa Rica with resources like GAM CULTURAL.
