Future expats don’t need therapy, they just need to move to Costa Rica
Wellness tourism (turismo de bienestar in Spanish) is growing, especially after over the pandemic that has lasted almost two years. Costa Rica is considered the perfect sanctuary for participating this type of activity since it offers a backdrop of incredible scenery, paradisical warm-water beaches, numerous hot springs, volcanic spas, wellness therapies like holistic medicine, massage and other types of therapy, hiking, yoga and so much more. Highly trained professionals in all of these areas are already available here, so you will be in good hands.
According to the Costa Rica Department of Tourism or I.C.T., forty percent of the tourists who entered the country between 2017 and 2019 engaged in activities related to wellness tourism. Furthermore, this sector is expected to grow in coming years. Please do not confuse this term with health tourism. The latter is visiting the country for cosmetic dental work, joint replacement or cosmetic surgery.
The country now has 75 hotels that participate in wellness tourism. Some of them have “coaches” such as psychologists, physical therapists and doctors.
So, now there is an alternative to regular tradition activities in which most tourists engage.
