It is important to understand that visitors, residents, and Costa Rican have certain rights when traveling by bus or taxi. Furthermore, Bus drivers have certain rules with which they must comply to ensure the safety of passengers.
- Bus drivers cannot drive to a gas station to buy fuel. This rule applies to taxi drivers also.
- Neither bus or taxi drivers can refuse service for senior citizens or the handicapped.
- The driver is not allowed to keep the door of the bus open when it is moving.
- The driver cannot exceed the number of passengers permitted.
- They also are not allowed to use their cell phones while driving.
- Drivers cannot Deny refuse those with service dogs, access to the bus
- Change the established bus route unless there is an emergency.
