A lot for expat retirees to do the weekend of April 1, 2023 and during Semana Santa (Easter Week)
As I have stated repeatedly, almost every weekend there are activities for retirees all over Costa Rica. It seems like there is always something to do in order to stay busy and happy. For example, just look at what I found below.
The Expo Birra Costa Rica (birra is slang for cerveza which means beer) or Beer Festival just concluded. Twenty national and foreign beers were featured. In addition, there was a variety of foods as well as live music.
On Sunday April 2 the Feria de la Cajeta will take place south of San José, in the suburb of Desamparados. For those of you who do not know, cajeta in Costa Rica is a dessert made of goat milk, shredded coconut and dulce de leche (concentrated milk and sugar). The highlight will be a humongous piece of cajeta that measures six feet wide for everyone to enjoy.
Dog lovers can attend the Doggo Fest on Avenida Escazú, just southwest of San José. Dogs and their masters get in for free. There will be lectures on nutrition and training for dog, plus delicious food and more.
The National Symphony Orchestra, featuring a guest conductor and pianist will be held in San José’s ornate National Theater. Best of all, there will be a forty-percent discount for seniors. In case you know, senior citizens are entitled to some discounts in Costa Rica, especially on public transportation.
During Easter there will also be “free’ musical recitals by concert bands in the cities of San José, Heredia, Alajuela, Puntarenas, Cartago, Guanacaste in the north of the country and Puntarenas on the Pacific coast.
More country-wide activities can be found in the weekend Viva section of La Nación newspaper.
Enjoy!
